Q: Have there been any discussions with Steinberg / Yamaha about a possible patent pledge for open source projects to be able to use VST plugins? You'd think they'd want this so that Linux geeks would purchase proprietary VST plugins, (Which Richard Stallman would hate but who cares what he says anyway) which would keep proprietary VST developers coming to them for their proprietary source code. --Nerd42 16:37, 13 July 2009 (CDT)

Gale 16 Jul 09: Audacity 1.3.8 imminently to be released will have experimental support for VST effect plug-ins in GUI mode, enabled by default in Preferences. This is based on the VeSTige reverse-engineered headers similarly used by Ardour and LMMS. There is no movement from Steinberg on licensing.
