This page contains Release Notes for Audacity versions from 2.1.0 onwards. Release Notes outline significant changes between Audacity versions, and list known issues current at time of each release.

3.1.0	28 Oct 2021	A release focussed on usability improvements, adding clip handle bars, smart clips and reworking the looping feature.
3.0.5	29 Sep 2021	Hotfix release, possibly project-corrupting bug fixed.
3.0.4	24 Aug 2021	Hotfix release, possibly project-corrupting bug fixed.
3.0.3	26 Jul 2021	Bug fixes and an improved default spectrogram appearance. An official binary is now provided for Linux in the form of an AppImage. Optional update checking and error/crash reporting. Default Windows version is 64-bit.
3.0.2	19 Apr 2021	Bug fixes and new macro output preference.
3.0.1	8 Apr 2021	3.0.1 had extra diagnostics to track down bugs, which it did, and was released only to developers.
3.0.0	17 Mar 2021	Now using aup3 unitary project file format. Over 160 bugs fixed.
2.4.2	26 Jun 2020	Updated library to wx3.1.3. Over 30 bugs fixed. New 'configuration reset' menu item.
2.4.1	21 May 2020	One serious data-loss P1 bug fixed. No new features
2.4.0	15 May 2020	Added Catalina support. Added TimeToolbar. Added Track Multi-view. Loudness, Noise Gate and Spectral Delete effects. Over 100 bugs fixed. (release withdrawn)
2.3.3	22 Nov 2019	Equalization effect split into two. Quality setting on ACC/M4A exports. Major refactoring. Over 150 bugs fixed.
2.3.2	13 May 2019	LAME built in. mod-script-pipe distributed with Audacity. 'Select' button in the track control panel. About 20 bugs fixed.
2.3.1	08 March 2019	Switch to 64-bit on macOS. Upgrade for Regular-Interval-Labels. About 25 bugs fixed.

2.1.1-screen-reader	15 July 2015	For a long time this was the best Mac build for VI users / VoiceOver, with older versions of macOS (pre-Mojave). Uses wxWidgets 2.8.12, and not 3.0. We've deprecated it now as it does not run on 64 bit.
2.1.1	15 July 2015	Improvements to effects. Faster editing. Scrubbing and Seeking, including backwards play.

2.0.0	13 March 2012	First stable version after a very long time in beta. Device Toolbar to manage inputs and outputs. Timer Record. Mixer Board view with per-track VU meters.
1.3.14	11 December 2011	Normalize: Faster processing and improved interface. Mix and Render preserves clip length. CleanSpeech Mode removed. Support for Audio Unit plug-ins on Mac.
1.3.13	11 April 2011	Improved Automatic Crash Recovery. New "Sync-Lock Tracks" feature. Equalization: New "Manage Curves" dialog. New Transport > Rescan Audio Devices menu item.
1.3.12	1 April 2010	Import lists of files (LOF) containing relative paths. Export Multiple: new option to use a numerical prefix before existing label or track names.
1.3.11	18 January 2010	New Sound Finder plug-in to label regions of audio between silences.
1.3.10	1 December 2009	Contains work by Google Summer of Code 2009. Input volume slider disabled if it doesn't have proper control of system slider.
1.3.9	1 September 2009	Compressor: new option to compress based on peaks, improved attack and decay time support. Improved design for Mixer Board.
1.3.8	17 July 2009	VST Effects now display GUI by default. Faster Equalization and Noise Removal; improved Truncate Silence and Click Track.
1.3.7	28 January 2009	High-quality "Sliding Time Scale/Pitch Shift" effect. Audio Contrast Analyzer for testing audio for WCAG2 accessibility compliance.
