This is a page of links to specialised, standalone Linux/Unix software that you might find useful in your audio work in addition to Audacity. The applications listed include tools for recording or mixing, file format conversion and some alternative standalone audio editors or workstations.

Ardour

A complete open source audio workstation for Linux. It can be compiled from source, or fully functional pre-built binaries may be available in some cases from your distribution's main or optional package repository.

Ardour can be built from source code on Windows and Mac too.

Ecasound

Peter 16Dec16: Software last updated "03.01.2014 - Ecasound 2.9.1 released" Looks to be abandoned 3 years ago.

I recommend we remove this from the list

Command line app that does multi-track recording, mixing, and realtime effects processing.

Note that this application appears to have been last updated as Vn 2.9.1 in early 2014, so it may no longer be being actively supported or developed.

GNUsound

Peter 16Dec16: Software last updated "The current version is 0.7.5, which was released 6 July 2008" Looks to be abandoned 8 years ago.

I recommend we remove this from the list

A multi-track sound editor for GNOME 1 and 2.

Note that this application appears to have been last updated as Vn 0.7.5 in summer 2008, so it may no longer be being actively supported or developed.
