Editing Download Nyquist Plug-ins

These are optional plug-in effects for Audacity. They are written in the Nyquist programming language.

For further information about Nyquist and Nyquist plug-ins, please see links at bottom of this page.

Unless otherwise indicated, they are released under the terms of the GNU General Public License, version 2.

All listed Nyquist plug-ins are cross-platform compatible but may require a minimum version of Audacity to function correctly.

Where indicated, the Audacity version number is the minimum required for that plug-in.

This page lists all Nyquist plug-ins that are currently hosted on the Audacity wiki. Click on the category link to jump to the plug-in page.

Each plug-in has links to View and to Download the plug-in. Clicking on the View link will display the plug-in code in your browser. Clicking on the Download link will usually initiate a file download. For some web browsers it may be necessary to right click on the Download link and select "Save As" or similar. The downloaded files are contained in ZIP archive files. The contents of the ZIP file must be extracted before the plug-in can be used. The ZIP archive may also contain help files or other useful information.

Installing Plug-ins

Nyquist plug-ins may be available as plain text files with the file extension .NY, or as a ZIP archive file. The NY file must be extracted from the ZIP archive before it can be used.

To install Nyquist plug-ins, place the NY file in the Plug-Ins folder inside the Audacity installation folder.

  • On Windows computers, this is usually under C:\Program Files\.
  • On Mac OS X, it is usually under Applications.
  • On Linux this is usually /usr/share/audacity/ or /usr/local/share/audacity. However, as standard users do not normally have write access to this folder it is often more convenient to create a folder in the home directory for the new plug-ins. This folder must be ~/.audacity-files/plug-ins/

Restart Audacity, then the Plug-ins will appear underneath the divider in the "Effect", "Generate" or "Analyze" menus.
