What this page can contain:
This page should contain agreed wording changes that should be applied in time for the next release (including translation). Some of the changes on this page are actually not agreed changes, and
(a) haven't been applied to the source code and
(b) are now marked to show that they are not agreed.
In the period between translation freeze and release it may also be useful to store agreed "cosmetic" wording changes here that are not worth breaking translations for, but which should be dealt with after release. Such changes should be stored inside their own heading at the top of the page.
What does not belong here:
- Other source code changes that may require changes in text in Audacity as a consequence
- Changes to the GUI such as moving buttons or controls from one place to another
- Changes to the bundled Manual - these are tracked in ednotes on the pages concerned.
- In the Track Control Panel dropdown menu "Multi View" should be hyphenated as "Multi-view"
Color not colour - in some Scriptables dialogs
- Scriptables II > Set Track... has "Colour" where it should have the US "Color"
- Scriptables I > Set Track Visuals... has "Colour" where it should have the US "Color"
- Note that both are correctly spelled on this page in the Manual
- Scriptables I > Set Clip... has "Colour" where it should have the US "Color"
- Peter: I changed the text in the Manual page https://alphamanual.audacityteam.org/man/Extra_Menu:_Scriptables_I
- "Filter Curve" to be renamed to "Filter Curve EQ"
- Decided by QA consensus on the Quality list. Many folk are missing Equalization in 2.3.3. They spot "Graphic EQ" but think it's is a poor-relation, a cut-down effect. They fail to realize the Filter Curve is also an equalization effect.
Consistency in and clarity of purpose for analyzers
- Analyze>Find Clipping helpfully creates a label track names "Clipping" - informative with good clarity or purpose. In contrast ...
- Analyze>Beat Finder creates a label track named "Label Track" - it should be "Beats" - consistent with Find Clipping and expresses clarity of purpose, removes ambiguity
- Analyze>Silence Finder creates a label track named "Label Track" - it should be "Silences" - consistent with Find Clipping and expresses clarity of purpose, removes ambiguity
- Analyze>Sound Finder creates a label track named "Label Track" - it should be "Sounds" - consistent with Find Clipping and expresses clarity of purpose, removes ambiguity
Error messages, warnings and advice dialogs
- The hovertext tool tip for Multi-Tool in the Tools Toolbar says "Multi Tool" it should be hyphenated as "Multi-Tool"
- Peter 03Jan20: This is for consistency with the manual see Multi-Tool
- In Tracks preferences "Show audio track name as overlay" to be changed to "Show track name as overlay" - or even "Show track names as overlays" (plural)
- The first point is that the tracck name overlay is displayed for all track types - not just "audio" tracks.
- The second point is that turning this "on" works on all tracks - hence the pluralization suggestion.
- Peter: I think I have a mild preference for the singular - it just looks neater
- improvements to the label context menu for clarity of purpose:
- Cut to become Cut label text
- Copy to become Copy label text
- Edit to become Edit label
- In Import/Export Preferences change "Skip silent space at the beginning" to be "Ignore blank space at the beginning"
- In the Tracks Preferences menu the submenu revert from "Tracks' Behaviors" to the former "Tracks Behaviors" omitting the added apostrophe (introduced in 2.3.3 alpha)
In the Tracks Preferences menu the submenu should simply be "Behaviors" rather than "Tracks Behaviors" - NO, reverted to "Tracks' Behaviors" BUT with an added apostrophe
- UPDATE: on further thinking and looking at the Manual I think it should stay as "Tracks Behaviors"
- In Import/Export Preferences "Custom mix" changed to "Advanced Mixing Options
- Warning:Problems found in Automatic Recovery - changed message to read Select "Help > Diagnostics > Show Log..." to see details
- Changed Effect > AudioUnit to Effect > Audio Unit with the space between "Audio" and "Unit"
