Steve 3Sept12: Delay and Reverb are probably most closely related, but Delay, Echo, Reverb, Chorus, Phaser and Flanger are all related quite closely. If they need to be grouped I would tend to group Reverb, Delay, Echo together, and Chorus, Phaser, Flanger together (not because of any technical distinction, but people tend to think of Delay, Reverb and Echo as "reverberant effects" and Chorus, Phaser, Flanger as "modulation" effects).
  • Steve added 13Sep12 in an email:One small problem - Chorus, Phaser and Flanger are not "really" modulation effects - they are "delay" effects, but are often "thought of" as modulation effects (because they sound like they are modulating). Real modulation effects are Tremolo, Vibrato, Ring Modulation .... It would probably be worth making reference to the real modulation effects on that page also. "Wah Wah" is another effect that falls into the same bracket as Chorus et al.
