Sound Activated Recording, a basic experimental feature to pause/restart Audacity recording when input falls below/exceeds a user-defined level, has been implemented in current Audacity.
This page can be used if required to expand on details of future enhancements to this feature. The main enhancement we're asked for is to define a duration to be recorded before the threshold-level sound occurs, and a duration to be recorded after the input falls back below the threshold. Please add actual votes for those and other enhancements on our main Feature Requests page.
